OLYMPIA, Wash. — The statewide minimum wage is about to reach a new high.
Starting in 2019, minimum wage in Washington will increase to $12 per hour (before Social Security and Medicare deductions) for workers age 16 and older.
The Department of Labor and Industries says this minimum wage hike applies to most jobs, including agriculture jobs.
Exceptions include student workers, apprentices, and workers with disabilities.
Employers are allowed to pay workers under 16-years-old 85% of minimum wage, which comes out to $10.20 per hour, before deductions.
L&I says the state minimum wage will climb to $13.50 an hour, before deductions, in 2020.
