A State Patrol trooper jumps into the Sammamish River to save a suicidal man.

Troopers say witnesses reported a man walking in the roadway on SR 202 near Woodinville and trying to get into vehicles Wednesday at about 6:30pm.

Trooper Kevin Thomson talked to the man and started guiding him off the overpass when the State Patrol says the man suddenly ran and jumped from the bridge railing into the river 30 feet below.

Thomson ran down the embankment and jumped into the river, pulling the man, who was now bleeding heavily from his head, out of the river.

The State Patrol says Thomson gave first aid until the fire department responded and took the man to Harborview Medical Center for treatment and a mental health evaluation.
