OLYMPIA, Wash. — The state Department of Agriculture will take down their Asian giant hornet traps later this month in preparation for winter.
Department spokesperson Karla Salp says workers and drones will die off this winter, and the queens will find a cozy spot to hibernate.
She says the nest that entomologists eradicated this fall probably isn’t the only one that produced mated queens in Whatcom County so they expect to find more next year.
Anyone who sees a living or dead Asian giant hornet is still asked to report it to the department.
