OLYMPIA, Wash. — A bill to toughen dui laws in Washington State got a hearing Friday.
Senate Bill 5054 would lookback 15 years instead of the current 10 for prior impaired driving offenses.
The offense would become a felony on a driver’s third strike over that time.
The Washington Association of Prosecuting attorneys testified in favor, while defense attorneys said offenders deserve a second chance.
SB 5054 passed the Senate March 1st and is set for executive session in the House Committee on Public Safety this Thursday.
