OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Senate passed a bill yesterday, Wednesday, February 9th, banning the sale of high-capacity magazines.

The bill, which passed by a 28-20 vote, prohibits the sale of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

While SB 5078 bans sales and distribution of the magazines, it does not prohibit possession of them.

And the Senate unanimously passed a bill that will allow the transfer of guns for museum displays.

State voters passed an initiative in 2014 that expanded background checks to include weapon transfers.

That prompted the Lynden Pioneer Museum to return borrowed guns it had in a World War II display at the time.

The Republican sponsor of the bill says the effect on museums was an unintended consequence of the initiative.

The Senate also passed a measure on Tuesday, February 8th, that would cap the cost of a 30-day supply of insulin at $35 for one year.

A law passed in 2020 set the current out-of-pocket limit for a 30-day supply of insulin at $100 and is set to expire on January 1st, 2023.

The bills now head to the House of Representatives for consideration.
