OLYMPIA, Wash – A state senator wants sexual harassment and assault claims made at the Capitol to be open to the public.

Senator Karen Keiser’s tweet followed a story by the Northwest News Network, The News Tribune and The Olympian.

Reporters interviewed women who said they were victims of sexual harassment at the Legislature.

Former lobbyist Nicole Grant said behavior ranges from excessive touching “to a slap on the butt, to lingering hugs, to grabbing your breasts.”

The House and Senate routinely declines to turn over legislative records, arguing that they should not be public.

Keiser tweeted she’ll push a bill “to exempt sex harassment and assault cases from gag rules and secrecy.”
