BELLINGHAM, Wash. – After being closed for nearly a year, a bridge in downtown Bellingham is set to open later this week.
The city announced that the State and Ellis Street bridge over Whatcom Creek will be open to traffic by 5 p.m. this Friday, April 22nd.
The bridge was originally constructed in the 1930’s and was closed last May to be replaced after years of gradual deterioration.
The ongoing project also involves rehabilitating the in-stream habitat underneath the crossing.
Though the bridge will be open at the end of the week, finishing work in the coming weeks will require occasional lane closures.
