RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) – Police officers don’t have the right to stop a person walking quickly and looking around after leaving a known drug house.
That’s according to the State Supreme Court.
The Tri-City Herald reports the justices reversed a lower court ruling.
A man was convicted and sentenced to one year in prison for possessing heroin during such stop by a Richland police officer.
The justices’ say sneaky movements are not enough to provide an officer with reasonable suspicion a person is involved in criminal activity.
