LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) – A new environmental study says a coal-export terminal proposed for southwest Washington would have major impacts on local communities, tribal fishing sites and rail safety.

The terminal would sit on the Columbia River near Longview and handle up to 44 million tons of coal a year that would arrive by train from Montana and Wyoming and be loaded onto ships to Asia.

Agencies will us the review when deciding on permits required for the project.

The Army Corp of Engineers killed plans for a similar terminal project at Cherry Point in Whatcom County.
