BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Some Sudden Valley homeowners are tired of annual dues increases and have launched a petition drive to reign them in.
Dues for community improvements have been steadily increasing.
The 2019 assessment for a developed property is just over $127 per month and the Sudden Valley Community Association Budget Committee projects a 14% increase to $145 next year.
Some community members claim that proposed projects could push the assessment to almost $400 per month in 2022.
They’re circulating a petition that would limit annual increases to 7% of the previous year’s revenue or 15% for special assessments.
They have to gather one signature from 10% of Sudden Valley households to put the measure before voters.
