BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Sunset Drive and Mount Baker Highway will be slammed with road work this summer.

Department of Transportation crews will be replacing a culvert, putting in new pavement, improving pedestrian crossings and, in partnership with the City of Bellingham, building a sidewalk on the south side of Applebee’s on Sunset.

Work is set to begin on Sunday, June 9th.

WSDOT says people who travel on Mount Baker Highway between I-5 and Britton Road should expect overnight lane closures, sections of rough, ground down road during daytime travel and detours for pedestrians and bicyclists.

They expect this $5.5 million project to finish in the fall.
