BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Ferndale man was taken into custody after he smashed his car into the Lakeway Fred Meyer building.

Bellingham Police Lieutenant Claudia Murphy reports officers were called to the store to investigate a collision around midnight on Wednesday.

The arrived to find that a car had crashed through the front doors on the south end of the building.

A witness saw the car enter and drive through the parking lot, then take a turn directly into the entrance doors, smashing through them.

Officers investigated the driver, 27-year-old John C. Rupp of Ferndale, for DUI and determined there was probable cause for his arrest.

No injuries were reported.
