BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Kids will have a new safe place to swim in Bellingham this summer.

Thanks to volunteers, private donors and Bellingham Bay Rotary, swim docks and lifeguards are returning to Lake Whatcom’s Bloedel Donovan Park after being gone for nearly 20 years.

Dr. Eddie Hansen of Natural Way Chiropractic began a campaign to bring the docks back five years ago.

He says the docks and lifeguards will bring new life to the park and offer a safe alternative to jumping off the Electric Avenue bridge.

The project is expected to be completed on July 1.
