BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The local arts scene in Whatcom County is mourning an impending loss.
Bellingham’s Sylvia Center for the Arts announced in a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 22nd, they will be permanently ceasing operations October 31st of this year at the latest.
The non-profit, community-based performing arts center have been providing affordable space to local artists since opening in 2016.
The group cites financial concerns and difficulties renewing its lease as to why they will have to close.
A final summer season of theater will continue into September.
