TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The state Growth Management Board has upheld regulations by the city of Tacoma preventing the expansion of an immigration detention center.
The News Tribune reports that the city earlier this year passed an ordinance preventing the Northwest Detention Center from adding more than 1,500 beds.
The private company that owns and operates the center challenged the regulations.
The company also sued the city in federal court.
That lawsuit is still pending.
