BOW, Wash – Taylor Shellfish Farms will pay $160,000 to settle a racial harassment case.
The U.S. Equal Opportunity Employment Commission sued Taylor Shellfish last September, alleging that mechanic Jeremy Daniels faced demeaning comments and stereotypes about his race starting in the first week of his employment at the company’s Samish Bay Farm on Chuckanut Drive.
Taylor Shellfish will adopt new training and policies to prevent harassment in the future.
The lawsuit had also claimed that Daniels’ supervisor retaliated against him by assigning him less desirable jobs, screaming profanities at him, and writing him up for insubordination.
