OLYMPIA, Wash. — Ten Washington counties could be taking a step backward on the Roadmap to Recovery plan, but Whatcom and other northwest counties aren’t on the list.

Most of the counties that may have to move back to Phase 2 of the plan are in Central or Eastern Washington but King, Snohomish, Kitsap and Lewis are on the list.

Pierce and Cowlitz Counties are already in Phase 2 and may have to remain there.

Governor Inslee told a news conference Thursday that the current sharp increase in rates of infection is cause for concern.

He says infections by variants have greatly overtaken those by the original strain in just the past month.

Inslee is joining health professionals who urge everyone to get vaccinated.
