MONROE, Wash. – A Monroe man is dead and a Bellingham man is among the five people injured in a three vehicle crash near Monroe.

The State Patrol said Paul Carlson of Ferndale crashed into a pickup Sunday afternoon when it slowed to make a turn.

The crash pushed the 79-year-old Robert Allender’s pickup into oncoming traffic on State Route 203, where it was hit by a third vehicle.

The Monroe man later died in the hospital.

Everyone in the third vehicle was hurt, including 19-year-old Jacob Colgan of Bellingham.

Troopers don’t believe drugs or alcohol were involved and are still investigating.
