BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Three men have been arrested in connection with ten kilos of fentanyl pills trafficked here in Whatcom County.
An undercover sting organized by Homeland Security Investigations led to the arrests of 22-year-old Guillermo Vierya Salas and 41-year-old Jaime Alonso Hernandez-Hernandez in Bellingham who both appeared in U.S. District Court in Seattle last Thursday, October 20th.
A third defendant, Manuel Lugo was arrested in North Carolina and will appear in court early this week.
Authorities learned of the trafficking network back in August and undercover agents set up a deal to purchase 75,000 fentanyl pills for $112,000 cash to take place near the Bellingham airport in late September.
The three men involved with the deadly-drug sale were arrested this week and now face a mandatory minimum of ten years in prison and potentially up to a life sentence.
