BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Three people were injured, two seriously, while crossing streets in Bellingham over the weekend.
Police Lt. Dannette Beckley says a Western Washington University student was hit by a car Friday evening as she walked outside of a crosswalk in the 200 block of Highland Drive.
She says the student was wearing dark clothing and the driver didn’t see her before hitting her.
The student had significant injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Saturday morning a 74 year old man was crossing Bakerview at Northwest when a slowly turning car hit him.
He suffered multiple broken bones and was airlifted to Harborview.
The young driver was cited for negligent driving and no proof of insurance.
And Sunday a man wearing dark clothing was clipped by a car as he crossed the Guide Meridian against the light at Westerly Road.
He wasn’t seriously hurt and that driver left the scene.
Beckley says these are strong reminders for pedestrians to wear light colored clothing and for drivers to slow down and travel with care.
She says to be especially alert and careful on Halloween.
