BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A tiny home encampment targeted at Bellingham’s homeless population is set to open in Fairhaven.

The City of Bellingham approved a permit allowing the nonprofit HomesNOW to move its tent encampment currently located in the Sunnyland neighborhood to the city-owned parking lot for the Post Point Wastewater Treatment Plant on McKenzie Avenue.

The new camp, called Unity Village, will have up to 20 tiny homes for up to 28 residents from August 24, 2019 through April 30, 2020 while they seek permanent housing.

This is the third temporary location for homeless encampments managed by HomesNOW, approved under rules that the Bellingham City Council passed in October in response to a homelessness crisis.
