PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — Port Orchard residents faced a terrifying surprise as a rare tornado ripped through a suburb, tearing off roofs, uprooting trees and sending debris flying.
KOMO reports there have not been any deaths or serious injuries due to the tornado which touched down on Tuesday afternoon.
After the damage was done, the Red Cross and St. Gabriel Parish opened a shelter for those affected to get their bearings, find services or stay the night.
A nearby diner, called That One Place, also stepped up to provide free meals for those staying at the shelter.
Crews with The National Weather Service will arrive in Port Orchard Wednesday morning to assess the damage and determine how strong the tornado was.
