CONCRETE, Wash. — The Department of Ecology is fining Concrete nearly $13,000 over alleged wastewater violations.
The Skagit County town of Concrete faces the penalty for not properly maintaining and operating it wastewater treatment plant, discharging untreated wastewater, and not reporting violations in a timely manner.
Their treatment plant releases treated wastewater to the Baker River, a tributary to the Skagit River.
The Department of Ecology says improper maintenance decreased the amount of wastewater the plant could treat.
The $12,800 penalty set by the DOE goes to the state’s Coastal Protection Fund.
