FERNDALE, Wash. — Sheriff’s deputies re-routed traffic and evacuated residents in a Ferndale neighborhood on Wednesday evening due to a belligerent man shooting a gun.

At about 7:30pm Wednesday, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a man yelling, screaming and waving a gun around in the 3700 block of Sinclair Drive, located in the Sandy Point area.

Deputies contacted a person who had just left the area who told them he had been living in a trailer on the property of 74-year-old Damond Darrow.

He said Darrow was drunk and told him to get off his property, then shot him in the back with a shotgun as he was leaving.

Deputies arrived at the property and Darrow reportedly refused to leave his home and fired another shot.

With help from Lummi Law and Order, deputies contacted Darrow and took him into custody.
