EVERSON, Wash. – A routine traffic stop in Everson led investigators to a massive amount of guns and drugs.

An Everson Police officer pulled the suspect over on Blair Drive on July 16th for expired registration tags, according to court documents.

The officer noticed drug paraphernalia and a long sword inside of the car, and the suspect initially consented to a search.

Fentanyl pills and a box of ammunition were seized before the officer noticed the trunk of the car was being weighed down.

The suspect rescinded his consent once officers reached the trunk.

A search warrant later yielded 22 guns, over a pound of marijuana, and a variety of illegal narcotics.

The suspect, 36-year-old Dmitry Varkentin, is not allowed to possess any firearms due to a previous domestic violence conviction.

He was arrested on August 31st and remains in custody at the Whatcom County Jail.
