BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The trial began Monday, March 28th, for a Bellingham woman in the death of a toddler she was caring for more than two years ago.
A police report said Kamee Nicole Dixon called 911 on November 27, 2019, claiming that the girl, three-year-old Hazel Homan, had choked on something.
Staff at St. Joseph Medical Center diagnosed Hazel with a brain bleed and transferred her to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
She died there from injuries that doctors said were consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
She also showed signs of having suffered previous abuse.
Dixon was not Hazel’s mother but was in a relationship with her father and was the girl’s primary caretaker.
She’s been in jail on $1 million bond for 2nd degree murder since her arrest in December 2019.
