SURREY, BC — Canadian authorities reportedly caught a truck driver attempting to smuggle thousands of dollars worth of opium into Canada from Whatcom County.
Officers with the Canada Border Services Agency at the Blaine truck crossing referred a commercial driver for further inspection after X-rays of their tractor and trailer revealed anomalies.
They located seven boxes of suspected dried opium poppy plants weighing over 60 pounds and valued at $58,000.
The driver was arrested and they, and the opium, were turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for further investigation.
