HANFORD, Wash. (AP) – President Trump’s proposed budget includes $120 million in cuts at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
That’s despite two recent incidents that raised concerns about worker safety at the former nuclear weapons production site.
Mick Mulvaney is the President’s Budget Director.
“These numbers are simply the President’s policies put onto paper. We took his speeches, we took his priorities, and turned them into numbers.”
Democratic Senator Patty Murray called the proposal a disappointment.
The massive environmental cleanup at Hanford costs more than $2 billion.
In the past two weeks, Hanford saw the collapse of a tunnel that contains nuclear waste, and a possible leak in one of the storage tanks.
