MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Daffodils are in full bloom in Mount Vernon, and the weather has the tulips itching to bloom as well.

KOMO reports the late season freeze, after a relatively warm winter, has some tulips blooming before the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, but Brent Roozen at RoozenGaarde in Mount Vernon say the timing may be just right.

“Right now we’re close. I think if we get a couple days of decent weather, we could have some color early next week in the fields,” he said.

The Tulip Festival runs through all of April, with this year’s opening also being Easter Sunday.

Planting is staggered to give the nearly one-million tourists that come through the fields lots of colorful tulips to see all month long.
