MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — Two Whatcom County men were arrested Thursday on suspicion of arson after one of the men threw a Molotov cocktail at at truck.

The Bellingham Herald reports two men, 27-year-old Andrew Weiler and 19-year-old Gabriel Logan Powell, were arrested on suspicion of first-degree arson, with Weiler also suspected of violating domestic violence protection orders and harassment.

Deputies responded to a report of arson on Golden Valley Drive in Maple Falls just after 3pm and found it appeared someone had thrown a Molotov cocktail at the truck in an attempt to burn it, but it bounced off the truck.

A nearby security camera showed Powell throwing the bottle at the truck.

Deputies arrested Powell, who said Weiler had convinced him to use the Molotov cocktail to light the victim’s truck on fire because he was upset that his ex-girlfriend had a new boyfriend.

Both men were booked into Whatcom County Jail on October 8th.
