SEATTLE, Wash. — A former Bellingham police officer sentenced to 8 years in jail in 2018 on nine convictions related to domestic violence now has had two of those overturned.
The Washington State Court of Appeals overturned former Corporal Brooks Laughlin’s convictions Tuesday on one count of misdemeanor harrassment and felony stalking.
The court also vacated the 25-year no-contact order between Laughlin and the victim on the grounds that it exceeds the statutory maximum for his most serious crime.
The 11-year no-contact order between Laughlin and the victim’s family was maintained.
Laughlin’s second-degree assault charges are unchanged.
