WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Two people were killed in separate accidents on I-5 Tuesday, December 21st.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Jacob Kennett told KGMI that 54-year-old David Taylor’s car rolled over on the shoulder near North Lake Samish Rd around 6:30 am.

Taylor left his vehicle and ended up being struck by two more cars that lost control on the icy roadway.

He later died at the hospital from his injuries.

Another crash shut down I-5 southbound at Portal Way around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon.

WSP said in a statement that a 66-year-old Keith Smith of Deming spun out and was struck by two other cars.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
