NOOKSACK RIVER, Wash. – Two people had to be rescued after their boat overturned on the Nooksack River yesterday, June 18th.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputies received reports of an overturned boat in the river near Nugents Corner at 9:25 a.m.
The victims reportedly held on to the boat and traveled a mile downstream where Washington State Patrol troopers located them and reported their location to other responders.
The victims and the boat got hung up on the river bar and volunteers from Whatcom Search and Rescue Swiftwater Rescue Team were able to reach them and bring them to shore with help from Sheriff’s Deputies and Border Protection.
The Sheriff’s Office says the victims were in the water for over an hour and were treated for slight hypothermia.
