OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – Two Washington lawmakers – a Democrat and a Republican – are criticizing the Department of Veterans Affairs for continuing to employ a Spokane man charged with killing his wife.

Senator Patty Murray and Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers expressed concern that Dwayne Thurman remains on the payroll at the VA Homeless Outreach Center.

Thurman pleaded not guilty last week to shooting his wife Brenda last year at their Spokane Valley home – he says it was an accident.
