In the opening round of the high school soccer state playoffs Wednesday night Whatcom County went 2-1. In Class 2A Sehome beat R.A. Long 3-1. The Mariners move on to play Franklin Pierce Friday night at 6:30 in Tacoma.
The Bellingham Red Raiders also advanced to the quarterfinals getting by Fife 4-0. Bellingham next hosts Highline Saturday at 4:00 at Civic Stadium.
Squalicum got eliminated by Garfield 3-0.
