BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University men’s golfers Adam Barker and Michael Butler have been named to the 2016-17 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Golf All-Academic Team.
Barker and Butler were two of 16 selections to this year’s Men’s Golf All-Academic Team, which recognizes players of sophomore standing or better, with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average or better and who are at least their second season at their current school. Butler competed in this week’s GNAC Championships placing 20th and helping lead the Vikings to the conference title for the second consecutive season.
Barker (Gig Harbor, WA/Peninsula) has maintained a 3.32 GPA as a business administration major. The junior played in two tournaments this season, placing 37th at the Cal Baptist Invitational and tied for 58th at the Western Washington Fall Invitational. He combined for a 76.0 stroke average in his six rounds (+4.00 relative to par).
Butler (Sammamish, WA/Skyline) also carries a 3.32 GPA as an accounting major. The sophomore has played in five tournaments for the Vikings, recording a scoring average of 75.21 (+3.64 to par). He placed 20th in the GNAC Championships with a 54-hole score of 14-over-par 227.
WWU is coming off a first-place finish in the GNAC Championships and is in good position to make its 19th consecutive trip to the NCAA II Championships. The regional field will be announced Friday at 3 pm PT on NCAA.com. The top 10 teams from each of the eight regions will advance to four super regionals. The West/South Central Regional (20 teams + 8 individuals) will be held May 8-10 at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, Calif.
