PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland school remembered a Western Washington University student and another young woman who died along the Pacific Crest Trail.

The two 19-year-old women were killed in an apparent fall.

“You’re never prepared to find out that it’s people who are very young,” Erik Broms with Portland Mountain Rescue told KGW. “It’s just tragic,” Broms said.

Emily Lang and Emma Place both graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 2016.

Their bodies were found Saturday at the base of a waterfall on Mount Hood.

Lang was a Western student.
