SEATTLE, Wash. — Canada’s prime minister says the border with the U.S. will stay closed to non-essential travel until the coronavirus pandemic is brought under significant control.
The current closure is set to last until December 21st, but KOMO reports Justin Trudeau seemed to extend that indefinitely with his comments Tuesday.
Trudeau said that while President-elect Biden’s approach to the pandemic is “obviously” different than that of President Trump, the situation in the U.S. remains serious and won’t change quickly.
Canada and the U.S. have limited border crossings since March, extending the restrictions each month.
About 400,000 people crossed the world’s longest international border each day before the pandemic.
