WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill yesterday, Tuesday, February 8th, that they hope will bring needed improvements to the Postal Service.

The bill lifts budget requirements that have pushed the USPS into debt, requires mail delivery six days a week, and mandates the Postal Service set up an online “dashboard” to show how efficiently they deliver mail to local communities.

Washington Representative Suzan DelBene says the bill, called the Postal Service Reform Act, should strengthen mail service across the country.

The bill’s passage comes after recent nation-wide complaints about mail delivery.

Residents here in Whatcom County reported long delays in mail service during wintry weather in late December and January.

The bill passed the House with bipartisan support and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says he’s planning a vote before a recess that starts after next week.
