BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Brett Bonner is suspending his primary campaign for the Whatcom County Council after he admitted he sexually harassed a former Republican aide.
Last week, Bonner told the Bellingham Herald that he sexually harassed 23-year-old Danielle Pentsak on Facebook Messenger when he was “blackout drunk.”
After the incident that occurred last winter, Bonner reportedly resigned from his position as vice chairman of Whatcom Republicans and checked himself into rehab.
Pentsak came forward after she learned Bonner had filed for office.
It’s past the deadline to withdraw from the race, so his name will be on the ballot, but Bonner says he won’t actively seek the post.
Remaining candidates for the at-large seat with the Whatcom County Council are David Ramirez, Bill LaFreniere, and Carol Frazey.
