OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Rep. David Sawyer has resigned as the chairman of the state House Commerce and Gaming Committee a day after an outside investigation confirmed that he violated the chamber’s policies on harassment, decorum and ethics.
An outside investigation found state Democratic Representative David Sawyer sent a House employee multiple “inappropriate and offensive” text messages and joked about an employee’s sexual orientation.
It says he also used employees’ time to discuss an investigation into sexual harassment claims against him.
On Tuesday, House Democratic leaders gave the recommendation that Sawyer be permanently removed as chairman of the House Commerce and Gaming Committee. Another Democrat is running against him this year.
