BELLINGHAM, Wash – A Whatcom County woman is upset that a UPS driver only left a note about running over and killing her dog.

No one was at the Lake Samish home when the dog was killed.

Cynthia Wakelin says the note was shocking.

The note said, “Sorry, but I backed over Toby. He’s dead. Over by where I turn around, I didn’t see him behind me. Sorry.

KING-5 reports the driver didn’t call the family even though there was a phone number on the dog’s collar and on the package.

UPS policy is to knock on the door and if no one is home to leave a note.

UPS apologized, said it would write a check to the customer and disciplined the driver.

There have been at least two other incidents across the country in recent years where a driver killed a dog and left a note.
