SEATTLE, Wash. — Shortages of coronavirus vaccines and their slow roll-out have prompted some calls to delay giving people the recommended second dose.
UW Medicine infectious disease expert Dr. Ruanne Barnabas says the data shows the vaccine would still be effective.
Data from vaccine trials show a single dose would provide more than 50% immunity while allowing twice the current number of vaccinations.
Follow-up doses could be administered as more vaccine becomes available.
Dr. Barnabas says that would help stop the spread of the virus sooner than the current strategy.
