SEATTLE, Wash. — Researchers in Washington are finding out more about the conniving ways of the coronavirus.

Some people who are infected report cognitive effects like fatigue or brain fog.

A new study on mice by Puget Sound Veterans Affairs and UW Medicine finds that the virus is able to attack brain cells.

Lead researcher Dr. William Banks says those proteins are the red spikes that illustrations show sticking out from the virus.

They’re prime target of the vaccines that are just coming into use.

Banks says it’s too soon to tell if the cognitive effects of the virus are temporary or long-term.
