PULLMAN, Wash. – A small contingent of Western Washington University track & field program competed Saturday at the Cougar Indoor held at the Indoor Practice Facility on the Washington State University campus.

WWU’s distance runners made up most of WWU’s competitors, with six Vikings competing in the mile. Senior Kyler Sager crossed the finish line first among the 35 racers in the mile, finishing in 4:22.63 to edge out Willamette’s Michael Montague (4:23.76). Juniors James Jasperson (4:24.91) and Liam Cossette (4:24.95) placed 3rd and 4th respectively.

Senior Dylan Hayes finished 2nd in the 3,000m placed 2nd in the 31-runner field finishing in 8:50.80. Sophomore Ed Kiolbasa added a top-10 finish in the 3,000m placing 9th in 9:02.16.

Sophomore Angelo Fernandez set a PR in the 60m recording a 7.26 time in the qualifying round, and finished 16th overall. Fernandez also placed 11th in the 200m finishing in 24.20.

The Vikings return to action next week (Feb. 8-9) with the two-day UW Classic at Dempsey Indoor. The Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships will be held Feb. 15-16 in Nampa, Idaho.

MYLES MOVES UP IN 400

Sophomore Myles Smith (Puyallup, WA) finished 14th out of 37 competitors in the 400m, setting a PR with a 49.88. Besting his previous best set earlier this season, Smith moved up to 7th in the WWU indoor record book.
