FERNDALE, Wash. – The Ferndale Community Service Cooperative is looking for volunteers for a temporary severe weather shelter being set up for this upcoming winter.

The shelter will be activated at a church in Ferndale on nights where the forecasted low is at 28 degrees or lower.

Volunteers would be contacted as soon as possible to sign up for shifts.

Shifts would include signing in guests, providing coffee and snacks, and monitoring the front door and sleeping guests throughout the night.

Anyone volunteering will be provided with 3 hours of training that includes on-site orientation, de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, and boundary setting.
