OLYMPIA, Wash. – Dogs across Washington are indebted to a Miniature Schnauzer from Auburn.
Waffles is the reason State Sen. Joe Fain, R-Auburn, authored a bill that would make it illegal to tether dogs with a choking collar.
“There are a lot of animals in our state, a lot of dogs in our state, that are being held in really unsafe environments, that are having horrible and disfiguring injuries because of the way that they’re being tethered,” Fain said.
The bill also says if dogs are restrained outside for long periods of time they must have access to food, water and shelter.
It also makes enforcement easier, said Fain.
He says Waffles changed his outlook on pet protection.
Governor Inslee did sign it into law.
