BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Walmart is expanding abortion coverage for its workers, but not as liberally as some other big companies.

The Seattle Times reports Walmart sent a notice to its employees on Friday, August 19th, about the change in health care coverage.

Its health plan will now cover abortion in cases of rape or incest, if there’s a health risk to the mother, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage or lack of fetal viability.

Abortions were only previously covered if the mother’s health would be in danger if the pregnancy was carried to term or if the fetus wouldn’t survive the birthing process.

Some other large companies have pledged to pay travel expenses if necessary for their workers to get abortions in states where it’s still allowed.
