ACME, Wash. — A wanted drug dealer who caused the death of a Whatcom deputy in a 2001 car chase has been arrested.
Deputies spotted 38-year-old Adrian G. Sassen-Vanesloo of Bellingham driving a black Nissan in the Acme Valley area Thursday night and took him into custody around 10:30 p.m.
The suspect is well known to Whatcom County law enforcement with his lengthy criminals history, which includes a conviction for a 2001 traffic pursuit that led to the death of Deputy Matt Herzog.
The Whatcom Gang and Drug Task Force had probable cause to arrest him stemming from a drug investigation earlier this year.
In a search of his vehicle, investigators located a stolen handgun, heroin, meth, cocaine, and $3100 in cash.
