OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson is taking more legal action against national pharmacy chains for their role in the state’s opioid crisis.
In a lawsuit, he claims that Albertsons, Kroger, and Rite Aid “knowingly” sold excessive amounts of the drugs by linking their pharmacists’ pay with how fast they filled prescriptions.
The three companies are also accused of filling prescriptions from doctors whose licenses were suspended or revoked.
Ferguson added that his office has reached settlements with five other companies over the opioid issue, including CVS, WalMart, and Walgreens.
Once finalized, the deal would bring an estimated $434 million to opioid recovery programs in Washington.
